Abisko Swedish Lapland - On the edge
In our recommended itinerary we have kept a clear day to allow you to fit in one or more of our experience enhancements. Alternatively, we can tailor make a longer stay to fit in more to your incentive:
Heli skiing – Experience skiing that most people don’t believe exists! By helicopter you can reach the remotest of mountain tops where untouched snow and beautiful long runs await. Once the helicopter has set you down and is out of sight, the feeling of smallness in a mighty mountain world quickly sets in. Breathe the mountain air and know that you are alive!
Marking the reindeer – Experience an authentic part of Sami life. This is an exclusive overnight trip to the summer village Lihti. This is the area where the members of the Girjas Sami mark the calves in July. Experience a night/day with the reindeer herders marking the calves. With herds of up to 7000 reindeer this can be a simply visually mesmerising spectacle.
Fantastic fly fishing – We will guide you to the best fishing waters in Swedish Lapland. Helicopter to the wild, untamed rivers and the multitude of crystal clear lakes in the mountains and on the Arctic tundra. The breathtaking, beautiful and unspoiled countryside provides excellent fishing for large arctic char, grayling, trout and pike. Your guide cooks Lappish specialities in the kitchen lavvu; you spend the nights in the lavvu base camp. You sleep comfortably in a warm sleeping bag on a reindeer skin. After a day of fishing you are welcome inside the lavvu. In front of the sparkling fire you get something good to drink. The guide is preparing the sauna tent for you.Enjoy a hot sauna in the wilderness.
Ice fishing – For Char on spring ice in the mountain lakes of Swedish Lapland is an angling experience out of the ordinary. The ice often stays until midsummer. In May and June the weather in the mountains is stable, with sunshine and midnight sun around the clock from 1st of May through June and more than a few degrees above zero during the day.
Ice climbing – Under the expert eye of a guide try this exhilarating sport as you climb up frozen waterfalls.
Rafting – There are no shortage of fabulously scenic rivers to raft down. With wilderness cabins or camps a day trip or longer experience is possible.
Dog sled and snowmobile safaris – During the Months of February March and April enhance your stay with a programme of exploring this magnificent region on snowmobiles or sled dogs.
The Northern lights – Abisko is the Northern Lights capital of the world. Visit the website www.abisko.nu and click on the Northern Lights link. From the sky station in Abisko some of the best sightings are made. This chair lift ride, accompanied by a warming dinner and the anticipation of seeing one of the world’s great natural phenomena sets the tone for a memorable evening.
