Abisko Swedish Lapland - On the edge
Abisko Mountain Lodge
Run by a wonderful and entertaining couple Mina and Dick Johansson, Abisko Mountain Lodge is a base for some very special experiences. Dick is one of the most qualified mountain guides in Sweden and looks after all the adventure while Mina is best described as a Skier, Creative CEO and ray of sunshine that lights up the hotel.
Abisko Mountain Lodge offers genuine accommodation in an old-fashioned mountain hotel setting. The service is personal and the cuisine is centred on ingredients from the region.
A helicopter landing pad behind the low-growing birch forest behind the hotel is witness to the location of one of the best Heli skiing regions in Europe. A low, red house in front of a solitary courtyard that lies hidden away at the foot of the mighty mountains. You are not about to stay in a pulsating ski resort, but that was never your intention either.
There are no televisions in the rooms. Meet in the new lounge where guests can relax, watch skiing films or play games. Order a coffee or a glass of wine at the bar, read a magazine or spin a yarn with the other world champions on the sofa. The restaurant serves delicious meals whilst the relaxing sauna is available to soothe any aching muscles!
Arctic Eden
The Arctic Eden is Kiruna’s latest hotel. The hotel is spacious and although minimalist it is warming and reflects the indigenous Sami Culture throughout. Rooms are light and airy and combine Lappish art with modern gadgets.
All rooms are equipped with LCD TV, DVD player and home theatre whilst bathrooms are equipped with massage cabins with radio. Wireless internet works in all room. The suites are the best in town and each has massage cabin, sauna and Jacuzzi. Finally Restaurant Arctic Gastro is a gourmet restaurant that offer’s you the best of local cuisine in a calm and rustic environment surrounded by Lappish art.
IceHotel or mountain wilderness camp
For both summer and winter activities a night or two in a wilderness camp can enhance the overall experience. Whether on a river rafting trip down the Torne River or experiencing the wilderness on an overnight sled dog trip, getting away and sharing Arctic wilderness is richly rewarding.
