Castle Klessen
Proprietors Mr nd Mrs Thiedig have created a unique private setting just a mere one hour from central Berlin and it is only through unique contacts that this country retreat is opened to guests. Founded in 1723 as the country estate to the Bredow family it welcomes with a subtle elegance and noble Prussian hospitality. It used to house Germany’s finest wine cellar but this fell into Napoleon’s hands at the same time as the manor fell into disrepair.
Following years of painstaking and sensitive restoration using traditional building materials, the castle re emerged as a contemporary manor house, where old doors, oak flooring and roof tiles from centuries past were brought together to recapture the elegance of a noble Prussian residence. Portraits of the Crown Princes of Brandenburg keep watch over the entrance hall, where gently crackling fires invite guests to stay and admire the vista over the landscaped park.
This is the hidden gem of the region, not a hotel as much as a private estate boasting 5 star service and exquisite cuisine. With a number of fabulous dining rooms and 13 guest rooms this can be hired exclusively or as part of a trip to Berlin.
