The floors are made of stone, with glass tiles in the shower room, roof panels and walls of stone. The rooms boast amazing views looking out on Kuusamo’s superb natural scenery. The restaurant and wine cellar allow for superb private functions whilst at the bottom of the lodge is the sauna and washroom.
Kakslauttanen
Kakslauttanen is famous for its Igloo village where there are 20 glass igloos, an ice gallery, a bar made of ice and uniquely, it has the World’s largest snow restaurant and the world’s largest smoke sauna. The glass igloos have been built from a very special thermo glass which keeps the temperature inside the Igloo normal and prevents the glass from frosting up hence keeping the view clear even when the temperature drops under -30 C. Each igloo has a toilet and luxury beds.
A central feature is a glass Kota, a heated tepee shaped building where guests at the Igloo Village can admire the Northern Lights. Hotel Kakslauttanen also has 31 individually located first-class log cabins. All have their own saunas and fireplaces! Finally there are a limited amount of ice Igloos made of snow.
The Aurora Chalet
The theme of the Aurora Chalet, situated in Luosto, a fell village not far from Rovaniemi, is the Northern Lights. The rooms offer a splendid setting in which to enjoy the spectacular show that this unique natural light phenomenon offers. The green flickering of the winter sky also features strongly in the hotel’s accommodation and layout: every hotel room has special windows for viewing the colourful display. Even the ambience of the restaurant is enlivened by panoramic windows facing north.
