India - Taj and tigers
With so many options available (see our enhancements) we can only convey one programme here. This action packed 4/ 5 night break allows you to fit in Delhi, The Taj Mahal and Ranthambore, India’s celebrated tiger reserve.
Day 1
On arrival in Delhi receive a traditional welcome and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2
After buffet breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven from Delhi to Agra. Agra, in terms of ambiance, is still associated with its Mughal period.
In the afternoon visit Agra Fort, an outstanding example of Mughal architecture and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire.
Day 3
Early morning you will proceed for a Sunrise Tour of the Taj Mahal. Tonga’s “horse carriages” will take you to the gates of the Taj Mahal which took 22 years and 20,000 men to build. The white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Now one of the 7 modern wonders of the world it is truly remarkable in scale and beauty.
Return to your hotel for buffet breakfast. Transfer to Bharatpur via Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted red sandstone city. Upon arrival in Bharatpur, board your train for Ranthambore. Overnight in camp.
Day 4
Ranthambore National Park is an outstanding example of Project Tiger’s efforts at conservation in the country. The forests around the Ranthambore Fort were once, the private grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur. As a result of the stringent efforts in conservation, tigers, the prime assets of the Park, have become more and more active during the day. More than in any other park or sanctuary in India, tigers are easily spotted here in daylight. It is very easy to chance upon a tiger lolling around lazily in the sun, or feverishly hunting down sambhar around the lakes.
Day 5
Breakfast and transfer to Sawai Madhopur railway station where you will proceed to board your train for Delhi. Arrive Delhi early afternoon and have time for a tour of the city or fly back to UK.
