Loire - French finesse
Chateau de La Barre
Hidden away in the midst of its’ 100 acres private park and gardens, between Chartres and Tours, at the entrance to the Loir and Loire valley, Chateau de La Barre has been in Guy and Marnie de Vanssay’s family for six centuries.
Elegance and authenticity meet with comfort and modernity in this elegant chateau surrounded by 16th century dry moat fortifications, with its’ own chapel, flower gardens, fountains, and pond. The grand salon, decorated in 1778 for the marriage of the Marquis de Vanssay, and adorned with an ornate chandelier, ancestral portraits and magnificent antiques, transmits a quiet air of history; the salon rose, built in the 16th century, combines cosiness by the fire with beautiful furnishings.Moving both back and forward in time, the 14th century “pièce à feu” with the former well and monumental hearth now houses a bar, satellite TV and billiard table.
Four course candlelit dinners accompanied by a special selection of wines are served in the great dinning room where masterpiece of the 18th century create a stunning setting.
All the bedrooms and suites, each sumptuously and individually decorated with beautiful period antiques, offer splendid views out onto the XVIth century fortifications, the vast garden, the pond and valley beyond.
Four gardens, an Italian, Japanese, American and Inca surround a fountain and a rose garden creating an enchanting setting to complement your visits to the Loir and Loire valley gardens of Sasnières, Le Petit Bordeaux, Valmer, la Possonnière and of course, Villandry.
