Passion of Opera in Verona
The arena in Verona is certainly the most dramatic and one of the most famous places in the world to enjoy a night at the Opera. Situated in Piazza Bra the amphitheatre was built in the 1st century AD by Claudius and its elliptical shape produces perfect acoustics from every point in the arena.
Performances used to take place in the centre of the amphitheatre, the “harena” (hence the name) or the area covered in sand where gladiatorial combats were held, the sand being used to absorb the blood of gladiators and animals. In its “platea” and “cavea” the amphitheatre could contain 30.000 people.
Shaped by the last Ice Age, Lake Garda has always fascinated its visitors, starting with its first visitor and enthusiast Wolfgang Goethe, who saw it in 1786. Lake Benacus (as it was called by the Romans and celebrated by one of their most illustrious poets, Catullus) is the biggest and the most typical of all of the pre-alpine lakes. Its particular shade of sky-blue and the varied landscape which surrounds it has made it unforgettable.
We bring the best of what Verona has to offer, from prime seats at the opera, to Michelin star dinners and private boating trips on Lake Garda. One for the connoisseur!
